Neymar will undergo surgery following his rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and injury to the meniscus in his left knee. For some, the Brazilian’s repeated injuries come as no surprise.

Mainly since his arrival at Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, Neymar has experienced big problems with his physique. Cascading injuries, sometimes slight, sometimes much more serious. Transferred this summer to Al-Hillal, the Auriverde international relapsed. While facing Uruguay with Brazil on October 17, “Ney” suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and damage to the meniscus of his left knee. Enough to force him to have an operation soon, with the direct consequence of an absence currently estimated at ten months. This new blow, however, is not a surprise to everyone.

Follower of Paris Saint-Germain for his media, Dominique Sévérac was not really surprised by this umpteenth relapse. He explained it on Wednesday on the set of the channel The Team. “ I have often said it, Doctor (Eric) Rolland, who is one of the former doctors of PSG, had identified the fact that (Neymar) would no longer be able to play football in the long term. Obviously he wasn’t wrong. (…) What the doctor said is that he will be able to play four months, you will see a fantastic Neymar, and then the rest of the time, you will not see him or he will be injured. Neymar, today, is a three-four month player. That’s the maximum.

Enough willpower?

Now aged thirty-one, the former FC Barcelona player is therefore facing a new challenge with this upcoming operation and a very long period of rehabilitation and getting back into shape. It remains to be seen whether he will still have enough will to return to the highest level, perhaps with the medium-term objective of playing one last World Cup with Brazil, in 2026. But in what state?
