Monday evening, Lionel Messi won a record eighth Ballon d’Or, ahead of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé.
It was also a special night for her former club Barcelona, whose women’s team won the Women’s Club of the Year award, presented by Joan Laporta.
With both Messi and Laporta present at the ceremony in Paris, the newspaper Jijantes of Gerard Romero claimed that the two men had met that evening to discuss the tribute ceremony for the Argentine, which he did not have when he left Barcelona in 2021. This information has was denied by Messi himself, who accused Romero of lying in an Instagram story.
Romero responded to Messi on X, offering a sincere apology for “to have been deceived again » by something related to the 36-year-old man. He also said that such a thing would not happen again.
Messi will not have thought much about Barcelona in recent months, as he refused to return after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. He will be entitled to a tribute ceremony one day or another, although it will probably not be right away.
