While the LFP is struggling to find a broadcaster for Ligue 1, Canal+ has broadcast a fairly clear message concerning its relationship to the French championship.
It’s all a question of timing, and this one is undoubtedly not trivial. At a time when the LFP made a first statement of failure, revealing that no satisfactory offer had been sent for the TV rights to Ligue 1 for the period 2024-2019, Canal+ published a short video on the sports programs that will be visible on its broadcasts in the years to come.

Canal+ is highlighting its most “bankable” TV rights, which are the Champions League, the Top 14, MotoGP and Formula 1. The channel will also rely on the Premier League, the Europa League and D1 Arkéma, contracts tied up for many years.
Canal+ will do well without Ligue 1
Concerning Ligue 1, Canal+ did not participate in the first stage of the call for tenders launched by the LFP. The director of the channel, Maxime Saada, recently explained that he had not appreciated the behavior of the Professional Football League in recent years.
Technically, nothing prevents Canal+ from discussing with the LFP during the over-the-counter negotiations which will now begin for Ligue 1. But the message from today’s trailer is quite clear, and indicates Canal+ will do very well in the years to come, Ligue 1 or not. And it is not certain that the opposite is true…
