Manchester United players were reportedly “disgusted” by the way Erik ten Hag treated Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.
Ronaldo left United last November amid controversy after criticizing Ten Hag – who relegated him to the bench in the first half of the 2021-22 campaign – during an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
The Portugal international then embarked on a new challenge outside Europe, at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, while United finished their first season under Ten Hag with Champions League qualification and a League Cup triumph to his credit. In 2023-24, however, the Red Devils’ results deteriorated and Sancho was left out of the team after refusing to meet the manager’s demands in training.
The England winger later lashed out at Ten Hag on social media, and it was reported that he would not be reinstated into the squad until he apologized. Former United striker Alan Brazil claims that, according to an inside source at Old Trafford, the dressing room turned against Ten Hag, whose treatment of the two star players was deemed far too harsh.
“That’s what I heard… from a Man United player who said it to someone I know very well,” Brazil said on talkSPORT. “ He said the players didn’t accept the manager. They don’t accept it at all. They are all disgusted by the way he treated Ronaldo – and they say Sancho is a great guy who works like crazy.”
United are reportedly keen to get rid of Sancho in the winter transfer window, with Ten Hag having grown tired of his “disruptive” behavior. The 23-year-old has failed to live up to expectations since his £72 million move to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021, scoring just nine goals in 55 Premier League appearances . He has been linked with a return to Dortmund, while Juventus are also believed to be keen to secure his services.
