The Monaco striker missed two penalties Friday evening against Nice (0-1).

Scorer the previous weekend in Lorient (2-2), shortly after coming into play, Folarin Balogun experienced a nightmare for his first start with AS Monaco.

The former Stade de Reims player missed two penalties, and his team ended up losing against Nice (0-1) in the derby. This is the first time that a player has missed two penalties in the same Ligue 1 match since Toifilou Maoulida with Auxerre against Bordeaux in August 2007, indicates Opta.

Balogun was preferred to Wissam Ben Yedder for this meeting, a choice made by Adi Hütter. “It’s a decision by the coach. We have two number 10s in very good form currently (Golovin and Minamino, editor’s note). I wasn’t going to play with two strikers and two number 10s. But I’m not going to justify myself every time Ben Yedder or Balogun plays. Balogun was very good on the field in the game this (Friday) evening. But he was also unlucky. He is frustrated. We’re going to help him bounce back. We win together and we lose together. It will help us a lot in the future,” confided the ASM coach at a press conference, reports L’Equipe.
