Big problem ahead for RC Lens

With the sudden departure of Stijn Spierings, RC Lens finds itself a little short in midfield before attacking the Champions League.

Four short matches and then it’s gone. After a disappointing start to the season with RC Lens, Stijn Spierings decided to return to Toulouse, where he left a few weeks ago, at the end of his contract. The Sang et Or agreed to let go of a player presented by the Voix du Nord as “a casting error. »

“Not intense or aggressive enough, the recovering midfielder has not adapted to the Lensois game, not made for the double pivot but much more for playing at a low point in a three-man environment,” explains the regional daily.

The problem is that RC Lens finds itself a little short, numerically speaking, in the midfield sector. If the Artesian leaders have made sure to double the positions in view of the Champions League campaign, this is not really the case for the midfield, a sector in reconstruction after the departure of captain Seko Fofana.

Behind the holders, Andy Diouf and Salis Abdul Samed, Racing recruited Nampalys Mendy at the very end of the transfer window. Franck Haise’s other options are the young Neil El Aynaoui, who arrived from Nancy, or the central attacking midfielders, like Adrien Thomasson, who can go down a notch. But while the Lens team is looking for itself at the start of the season (one point taken in four matches), the Stijn Spierings failure could be very costly.
