Xabi Alonso has supporters on the Mersey side to take charge of Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp.
Xabi Alonso is currently impressing as the manager of German side Bayer Leverkusen. His beginnings in the profession were so attractive that he was promised the position of coach of Real Madrid. That said, the Spanish capital is not the only destination that could be offered to him.
“Xabi Alonso is ahead of Gerrard”
Liverpool, where he played from 2004 to 2009, is also emerging as a real option. He would notably join the elite of the best coaches on the circuit.
Jason McAteer, ex-Liverpool player, sees the Basque technician becoming the next manager of the Reds. The former Irish footballer told BoyleSports: “A lot of life is about timing, being in the right place at the right time. People say to me, ‘Oh, Steven Gerrard will be the next Liverpool manager.’ If the stars don’t align for his managerial career and Jurgen Klopp wants to leave, it won’t happen. If you ask me right now, Xabi Alonso is ahead of Steven because of the way things are going and the timing.”
It is true that Xabi Alonso is much more convincing in the role of coach than Gerrard. The latter certainly gave Rangers their first championship title in ten years, but since then his career has been nothing but a series of disappointments. The former number 8 of the Reds even had to go to Saudi Arabia to recover his health.
