FC Barcelona have been in the hunt for a right-back for a long time, and it looks like top pick Xavi Hernandez is set to sign for the Blaugrana with days to go before the transfer market closes.

Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo has always been on the verge of leaving the club this summer, and Barcelona are set to benefit from the arrival of another Jorge Mendes client. It would be a loan with a purchase option of 25 to 30 million euros, but according to certain clauses, the purchase option could become mandatory.

Fabrizio Romano reports today that the operation has been given the green light and that Cancelo is now traveling to the Catalan capital, information confirmed by the Cadena Cope. His arrival is scheduled for 21:41 CEST from Porto.

Cancelo, 29, will be the first right-back that FC Barcelona has recruited who has already shown the pedigree to play the last stages of the Champions League since the departure of Dani Alves in 2016.

Since then, the arrivals of Nelson Semedo, Sergino Dest and Emerson Royale have all seen the Blaugrana attempt to develop a starter… and fail.
