As he slowly but surely approaches the Qatari club Al-Duhail, Philippe Coutinho will bring big money to FC Barcelona.
The transfer of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool to FC Barcelona in the summer of 2018 proved to be one of the biggest flops of this period. Unable to reproduce in Catalonia what he regularly offered in England, the Brazilian was then loaned to Bayern Munich and then to Aston Villa. And it’s finally among the Villans that he has regained some of his football. But in August 2023, Coutinho seems inclined to look elsewhere, he who has reached an agreement with the Qatari club Al-Duhail. If ever Aston Villa agreed to sell him, then Barça would benefit financially.
Because when he left Barcelona for Birmingham, a clause was included in his contract, allowing Barça to recover 50% of the sum that Villa would earn on its sale. In fact, a possible transaction between the English club and Al-Duhail should logically indirectly benefit FC Barcelona. And that would be very good news for Blaugrana who never stop juggling the payroll constraints imposed by the Spanish La Liga.
Aston Villa must decide
According to AS, if Coutinho is therefore already in agreement with the Qataris, now remains to convince his club to sell him. The Spanish media explains this Saturday that the coach of the Villans, Unai Emery, would not be against a departure, on the express condition that a replacement be recruited. The suspense therefore remains complete for the player who had cost 130 million euros to Barça before being sold 20 million euros to Aston Villa, three and a half years later.
