Record transfer from Chelsea, Moises Caicedo had a very difficult first with his new club against West Ham on Sunday.
The transfer window of chelsea was once again marked by crazy spending (around €385m) to strengthen its workforce after a disastrous 2022-2023 season even if, this time, the Blues have cleaned up their workforce and sold for around 250 million euros. During this summer transfer window, the London club hit hard by recruiting. Moises Caicedo from Brighton for 116 million euros, making him the second most expensive signing in club history.
A tricky first for Caicedo
On Sunday, the 21-year-old made his big debut when he came on as a substitute against West Ham. Inevitably, such an amount for his transfer generated a lot of expectations. But unfortunately, not everything went as planned for the Ecuadorian international. Entering the hour mark when his team was trailing 2-1, Caicedo missed his match, losing many balls and causing a penalty which precipitated the fall of his team in stoppage time.
“That man Caicedo has had a bit of a nightmare since he came on, you have to say…” 🫣

A performance that has not escaped internet users, and even less to Jamie Carragher. The consultant for Sky Sports did not hesitate to knock out the new Blues midfielder after the match. “He’s a nightmare for his debut, he’s a little lazy. He enters and from his third touch of the ball, he strikes. It’s not known for its hitting quality, and I’m not sure it was bought for that. (…) Caicedo hasn’t had a single minute for 60 days, and it shows. Only the manager knows if he’s ready and I don’t think he’s ready yet.”, dropped the former Liverpool player. Caicedo may have the chance to do better against Luton on Friday.
