While leading 0-2 after twenty-two minutes of play, RC Lens was surprised by the awakening of Stade Brestois. The Sang et Or were beaten for their first game of the season (3-2).

RC Lens missed the first step of their season. And yet, he had a good foot on it. On the move this Sunday on the ground of Stade Brestois, the Sang et Or club seemed to be on track to sign its first success in Ligue 1, but it was without counting on the reaction force of the Bretons. Led by two goals, the locals managed to overthrow everything to finally win with the score of 3-2.

Dauphin of PSG last year, Lens was therefore the logical favorite against Brest. And this status was first perfectly confirmed by Franck Haise’s men who opened the scoring after ten minutes of play by Sotoca (0-1, 11th), before Machado doubled the mark before even halfway through the first period (0-2, 22nd). Too strong the Northerners? For a while yes, but the reduction in Del Castillo’s score for the Brestois, just before the break (1-2, 45 + 2) was going to change the situation.

Double for Del Castillo

And on returning from the locker room, it was much more enterprising Bretons who gradually took matters into their own hands. If Samba saved the Lensoise barracks for a long time, he could not do anything about Lala’s shot (2-2, 56th). In full pitch, Lens continued to slowly sink with the direct red card from Thomasson for a nasty sole on an opposing foot that hurt the visitors very badly (82nd). Then Samed’s fault on Camara offered a penalty to the Brestois. A chance that Del Castillo did not miss (3-2, 87th) to give his team the advantage for the first time in the game.

Dejected, the Sang et Or could not come back up to par and therefore conceded a first setback. They will have to react at home in a week against Stade Rennais. For Brest, this stunning victory looks like a small feat. Perfect for starting the season before moving to Le Havre.
