The new sporting director of Barça, Deco, had warned his leaders that there was a danger concerning Ousmane Dembélé.
The transfer of Ousmane Dembélé to Paris Saint-Germain is far from settled, but the threat is considered very serious by FC Barcelona. According to Sport, Deco, the Blaugrana’s new sporting director, had warned his bosses that there was a potential danger with the France international.
The reason ? This release clause of 50 million euros, valid until July 31, which leaves Dembélé within reach of a club like PSG. For Deco, it was a priority to negotiate a contract extension with the 2018 world champion, to “armor” the player. The discussions have not (yet) succeeded, and Barca can simply rely on the promise made by Dembélé’s agent that no transfer would take place this summer.
Now there are contacts with PSG, and the ball is in the court of the player, who will have to make a decision. “Sportingly and personally, it is clear that he wants to stay, financially it is another matter”summarizes Sport.
For Barça, the departure of Dembélé would be a blow. The Frenchman had a superb second half of the season with Xavi, and the Blaugranas, in the event of a departure at 50 million euros, would not have the means to recover a replacement of this magnitude, given their financial worries.
