The former centre-back remains close to Barca business and assesses a rookie.

Few people in the world of football know better than Gerard Pique what it is like to be a central defender at FC Barcelona. The 36-year-old made the job his own when he returned from Manchester United in 2008 and held it for 14 years.

Pique spoke about FC Barcelona’s latest signing as a centre-back, Inigo Martinez. The 32-year-old joined Athletic Club at the start of July and Pique believes he could be a good signing for the Blaugrana, as reported MD.

“He takes the ball very well, he has a very good foot and a lot of character. He will adapt easily (to Barcelona).

“With him, the position of central defender will be even more competitive, because there is Ronald Araujo, Christensen and Jules (Koundé) can also play there. The team already showed last season that they can be competitive at a high level defensively and I hope it will continue that way. »
