The 2022 FIFA World Cup crowned Argentina. But it also allowed the clubs to receive a small amount of money. Indeed, 440 clubs have been compensated thanks to the protocol put in place by the governing body of world football. Because in Qatar, no less than 187 players were concerned. Of these 440 formations, there were not only first division teams. 78 second division teams, 13 third division clubs, 5 fourth division teams and 1 fifth division team were also compensated. “In total, FIFA will distribute USD 209 million (approximately €187 million) for the release of 837 footballers, the amount per day and per player amounting to USD 10,950 (approximately €9,800), regardless of the time of individual game. This total per player is then divided and paid to the club(s) at which each player was registered in the two years prior to the final competition,” states the report published today by the FIFA.

For the 2026 and 2030 editions, this amount will change and increase to approximately €317 million. Unsurprisingly, Europe receives the most. With 16 players called up to Qatar, Manchester City received €4.1 million. This is a little less than in Russia where the English champion had received €4.39 million. Barça (€4.06m) and Bayern Munich (€3.8m) complete the podium. The first French club is of course PSG. The capital club sent 11 players from its squad to the World Cup, including Messi and Mbappé who faced each other in the final. It is the 5th best-endowed club in the world, receiving €3.35m, just behind Real Madrid (€3.36m). He is well ahead of OM and their check for €1.88 million and AS Monaco, which receives €1.6 million. Stade Rennais (€1.43m) and OL (€722,000) finish this French top 5.
