The captain of the France team has revealed that he does not intend to tell his child to choose between France and Cameroon if he becomes the father of a top footballer.

After fifteen days spent in Miami, Kylian Mbappé took advantage of his vacation to set sail for Cameroon and then make a detour to Algeria, the two countries of origin of his parents. During his stay in Cameroon, the tricolor striker gave an interview to La Nouvelle Chaîne Ivoirienne during which the question of sports nationality was discussed. If he became the father of a high-level footballer son, would he ask his child to choose the France team or the Cameroon team?

“It’s an easy question, because it’s a question that comes from the heart, it’s not like a club”he confided, adding: “You have to see the tie he has with the country, if he is closer to Cameroon, if he is closer to France. Me, I was born in France, my origins are Cameroonian. But I have spent my whole life in France. That’s why I chose France. But my son, it will be different.”

“Maybe I will live in Cameroon, he will have a greater connection with Cameroon and therefore he will choose Cameroon. Or we will be in France and he will choose France. But it’s a choice he will make. I don’t want to tell him to do something, because it’s a personal choice, he continued. I’ll just be her father, and I won’t be anyone else to tell her to do something or not to do it. It is a personal choice. I’m sure he’ll take the right one, because I’m sure it’s coming from his heart.”

The tricolor world champion also addressed the issue of racism. And in his view, the players are not doing enough in the fight against discrimination. “I think we, the players, have to do more, did he throw. We have taken a first step which is to no longer accept this kind of thing, but I think we will have to discuss with the authorities, with everyone, to find the best formula. I don’t have the magic recipe, otherwise I would give it away. But I think that in 2023, it is still inconceivable that there are things like this that can happen.
