Leipzig is getting impatient! With the loss of Christopher NKunku, transferred to Chelsea, the German stable is in search of a pure number 9 to compete with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga next season. In this perspective, the winner of the 2023 German Cup is going out of his way to try to recruit Loïs Openda, striker from RC Lens. The Belgian striker of Sang et Or walked on water last season for his first in Ligue 1 and is now a striker who is popular on the transfer market.

But despite the Belgian’s desires elsewhere and Leipzig’s desire to recruit him ardently, the artesian club is not willing to let him go so easily. If Leipzig recently made a fourth offer for 43 million euros, it was once again refused by the Lensoise management. Something to surprise the German formation which did not expect to have to fight so much to afford Openda. So now, Leipzig is considering a plan B.

Balogun also targeted

In effect, Picture reports that RB Leipzig are targeting Folarin Balogun as a potential alternative. Fast, dribbler and able to project himself quickly forward, the athletic qualities of the American striker resemble those of the Lensois striker. Moreover, the market value of the ex-Stade de Reims player (20 goals in 35 Ligue 1 games) is set at 30 million euros, an amount lower than that of Loïs Openda.

Back at Arsenal this summer, the 22-year-old striker will not be retained and should bring a nice check to the Gunners who have strengthened this summer on the attacking positions. Leipzig is therefore already starting to prepare for a failure in the Openda file. However, the German outlet claim the Liege native remains the Saxon-based club’s number one priority. But with this information revealed in Germany, Lens could also be tempted to let his player slip away so as not to miss the opportunity to collect a very nice check. Leipzig also have every interest in hinting that another player is being targeted to put pressure on Lens. So bluff or real lead? To be continued.
