Author of an excellent season with RC Lens, Loïs Openda is logically very courted. The Belgian striker has the opportunity to join RB Leipzig and he does not intend to let it pass despite his promise.

With 21 goals scored for his first season in Ligue 1 with RC Lens, Loïs Openda finished third top scorer in the championship behind the French Mbappé and Lacazette. The Belgian was the revelation of the year for the Sang et Or and largely contributed to the club’s fine second place behind PSG. The 23-year-old striker is therefore necessarily very courted by European clubs. If he is still under contract until June 2027 with Lens, Openda would like to seize the opportunity offered by RB Leipzig who have made it a priority. With Christopher Nkunku likely to leave Chelsea, the German club need a replacement for their handyman and Openda have been named as the successor by management. Nevertheless, Lens seems to be too greedy with Leipzig, which could be problematic for the Belgian.

Openda expect Lens effort to sign Leipzig

In an interview with RTL in Belgium, Loïs Openda spoke about the interest of Leipzig. “For the moment, I am an RC Lens player. I’m happy and I had a good season. But we must not forget that I am a player with ambition. I want to play at the highest level possible. So you have to go to clubs that play at the highest possible level. Leipzig can be a good club that will help me take a step forward. Every year the team plays in the Champions League and competes for the league title. But as I said, I am a Lens player and the clubs have to talk to each other. My agent handles that too” said the Belgian international (8 caps) who has been selected by Domenico Tedesco for the next two matches against Austria and Estonia in qualifying for Euro 2024. If he claims to be focused with his country, Openda risks however to see his rating drop sharply in Artois, with his desire to join an ambitious club, and therefore to break his promise to play in the Champions League with RC Lens next season.
