Even if his future on the sidelines of Lyon was for a time threatened with the departure of Jean-Michel Aulas, Laurent Blanc will indeed be the coach of OL next season, and with expanded prerogatives.

Jean-Michel Aulas having officially left his position as president of Olympique Lyonnais, John Textor is gradually beginning to impose his mark to shape the modern club he desires. If the American shareholder foresees many changes within the sports sector, he intends to do something new with the old about the coach. Because he could very well have appointed a coach of his own. But Textor has decided to extend the adventure with Laurent Blanc. Arrived during last season, the former coach of the France team did not however succeed in reversing the trend of a badly embarked exercise.

Someone close to Blanc arrives as performance manager

Despite a new non-qualification for the European Cup, Blanc will be well on the bench at the summer resumption, and with even more power. Indeed, according to Foot Mercato, Blanc will see his technical staff expand with a close friend, since Martin Buchheit will land as performance manager. Already in this costume at LOSC, Thomas Tuchel’s former assistant at PSG will take the place of Antonin Da Fonseca. By choosing to stick Buchheit to the staff of the 1998 world champion, Textor plans to impose his philosophy based on the analysis of data to frame the monitoring of players on a daily basis.

White king of the transfer window with Matthieu Louis-Jean

Apart from that, Laurent Blanc will also have a key role to play in the transfer window since he will have the power to validate or refuse the player profiles offered by the band to Textor. In terms of scouting, the American owner also plans to considerably strengthen the OL recruitment cell around Matthieu Louis-Jean. Passed by OM and Nice, this very famous recruiter in Europe will replace Bruno Cheyrou from July. In the absence of a sporting director, the 47-year-old will have the difficult task of proposing the perfect players to strengthen Lyon for next season. A mission that he will carry out with new collaborators, but also in consultation with Textor, Vincent Ponsot, who will continue to manage OL’s financial sector, and therefore Laurent Blanc, who will have his say on the next recruits in as a major player in the new Lyon.
