Trained at Olympique de Marseille, Niels Nkounkou could return to the South of France this summer after a successful stint with AS Saint-Etienne in Ligue 2.

In search of a new left-back for next season, knowing that the Portuguese Nuno Tavares, on loan from Arsenal, will not be retained, the Olympian club could set their sights on a former home. Indeed, according to information from the Goal FC site, the 22-year-old is well on the shelves of Pablo Longoria: “OM took some information recently. And Niels Nkounkou showed his provisions at the piston station. A back-up role could be offered to him by the Marseille club.. An enticing project that could please the 22-year-old defender, especially after his good season with the Greens. On loan from Everton to ASSE last January, Nkounkou was one of the main players in Sainté’s rise in the standings. Author of six goals and eight assists in 19 L2 games, he has just officially signed for the Forez club, which has exercised its option to purchase two million euros before signing a contract. until 2026.

Nkounkou future OM lining on the left?

A signature which will however be synonymous with departure, since Nkounkou has a good chance of being transferred during the next transfer market. Quite simply because he wants to play in L1, as he recently explained in Onze Mondial: “By showing what I show in Ligue 2, it makes me want to gauge myself at the top level. But are there clubs interested in my profile? We’ll see what happens.”. OM is one of the clubs interested. It now remains to be seen whether Longoria will throw himself on the former resident of the OM training center (2017-2020) or rather on a foreign hope potentially desired by the future replacement for Igor Tudor on the sidelines of Marseille.
