A young fan managed to jump over the barriers and run towards Messi on the pitch with his cell phone camera on, as Inter Miami played Charlotte FC in an MLS match at Chase Stadium Saturday evening.
The Argentine superstar spotted him early, greeted the boy with a smile and posed to take a selfie with him. Meanwhile, security rushed onto the field to escort him away. As they approached, Messi urged the boy to run and even gave him a head start by lightly pushing him in the back to help him outrun the guards.
Messi, the strong gesture
Inter Miami was struggling on the field to overcome a resilient Charlotte FC at that point. They fell behind before the hour mark, but Messi’s heroics ensured Tata Martino’s men had at least a point to show for their efforts before leaving the field. After scoring the equalizer, Messi lit up the pitch with an Iron Man-inspired celebration that drew huge cheers from the crowd.
Messi will be back in action against Columbus on October 2 in Inter Miami’s next MLS match.
