PSG: which eleven to face Arsenal?

PSG has another appointment with the Champions League this Tuesday. The Parisians travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal on the second day. After a painful victory during the first match against Girona (1-0) and a draw at Reims (1-1) in the process, Luis Enrique’s team was reassured this Friday evening against Rennes (3- 1) with a successful performance. But this meeting against the Gunners will be at a very different level and we will have to respond.

The Spanish technician will therefore have to rack his brains to field an eleven capable of competing with an Arsenal team in great form since the start of this 2024-2025 financial year. The first question, and not the least, will concern the goalkeeper position. Since Gianluigi Donnarumma’s injury (muscle discomfort), it has been Matvey Safonov who has been keeping the Parisian goals. And the Russian goalkeeper made his third start against Rennes but did not reassure at all with a few risky outings. Enough to leave doubt. If Donnarumma is fit, and that is the whole question since his situation is quite vague, Luis Enrique should quickly put him back as a starter. In defense, the choice is much simpler, or almost. Since the start of the season, the Marquinhos-Pacho hinge has been satisfactory. The Brazilian is in good shape at the start of the season while the latest Ecuadorian recruit has completely eclipsed the competition and is playing one match after another. Solid in duels, good in positioning, he quickly convinced Luis Enrique.

Kang-in Lee scored points

On the right of the defense, no debate possible with the current level of Achraf Hakimi who is having a great start to the season. But the black spot is once again the left corridor. Nuno Mendes was absent this Friday after falling ill. For PSG, it would be better for him to recover quickly as Lucas Beraldo is not at all reassuring in this position. The Brazilian defender, blocked in the axis by a solid Pacho, is content to help out as a left back. But it seems well below the recommended level and we saw it again this Friday against a Rennes team that was nevertheless timid offensively. In midfield, Luis Enrique will likely have more choices. Joao Neves, still excellent against Rennes, seems to be in great shape and his coach could decide to go with him to manage Arsenal’s effective pressing. It remains to be seen whether his compatriot Vitinha will also be able to start since he was absent from the group after suffering ankle pain. If so, he should also be in the starting XI.

And the last place will be played out between Zaire-Emery and Fabian Ruiz. Both can claim a starting place and it will certainly depend on whether or not Luis Enrique wants to bring a little more size and physical impact in the heart of the game. Finally on the offensive line, Bradley Barcola shone again against Rennes (double) and will continue in their left color while Ousmane Dembélé will be on the right. The question remains for this position of number 9 or false-nine. With his match yesterday, Kang-in Lee clearly risks having a chance to play. Available, very comfortable technically, the South Korean showed great things and convinced Luis Enrique that he was a reliable option in this role. But with the former Barça coach, everything can go very quickly and seeing Kolo Muani start against all expectations is also possible. Especially when we know that Luis Enrique likes to involve his entire group even in such important matches. Answer this Tuesday at 9 p.m.…
