The draw conceded by Manchester United against FC Twente left a bitter taste for Erik Ten Hag. The Dutch coach was particularly critical of his own team.

Manchester United began their European campaign with a draw against FC Twente (1-1) this Wednesday in the Europa League. The Red Devils opened the scoring after half an hour thanks to a powerful strike from Christian Eriksen, but the Dutch managed to equalize in the second half.

The goal was scored by Sam Lammers, following an impressive run from Bart Van Rooij. The Dutch right-back eliminated no less than five Mancunian players before losing the ball, which was finally recovered by his teammate, allowing the fourth in the Eredivisie to save a point.

“There was too much complacency”

In a press conference after the match, Erik Ten Hag, the United coach, highlighted a certain nonchalance on the part of his team, while also being self-critical.

“We cannot allow a situation like the equalizer with a player who dribbles for several meters without being stopped. I saw in many matches how high our work ethic was, but in this match there are points to criticize, he said.
“It’s not just the team, I also have to look in the mirror. When you have ambition, you have to perform. In the second half specifically, there was too much complacency. When you’re up 1-0 and in control of the match, you have to finish the job. We made a mistake and the opponent took advantage of it. The draw is very frustrating,” analyzed the Batavian.
