After a sad run of three games without a win since the start of the German Championship, Mainz hoped to get back on track at the WWK Arena in Augsburg, which was coming off a win against Sankt Pauli. And it all started well for Mainz, quickly taking the lead thanks to Sieb, then Burkardt in a quarter of an hour (2-0, 13th and 15th). Before half-time, Keven Schlotterbeck, Nico’s big brother, reduced the score for the home team (2-1, 25th).

But that was not enough, as Burkardt scored twice to secure the victory (3-1, 49th). Despite Essende’s reduction in the score, which would later be excluded (3-2, 57th), Mainz finally won and moved up to 10th place, before hosting Heidenheim. Augsburg, 12th after this second defeat of the season, pulled off a bad move before going to RB Leipzig.
