Barely three weeks after leaving, Jordan Veretout will return to Marseille. It will be Sunday evening for the Olympico at the Groupama Stadium. The French international is looking forward to it. And, above all, he is looking forward to bringing down his former team.
Veretout left OM under difficult conditions. Left out of the first team because he didn’t fit into Roberto De Zerbi’s plans, he found himself in the loft throughout August, just like Chancel Mbemba. While he was coming off a rather convincing season, he was punished by his management for no reason.
Veretout will put “his emotions aside”
The midfielder is not particularly bitter about this episode. But, he promises on the other hand to do everything to bring down the Phocéens. “I’m looking forward to it, but we’ll have to stay focused on what the coach asks, he told OL Play. We will have to put our emotions aside, it will be a football match and we will have to stay focused so as not to miss out.”
Veretout also admitted that he had a very bad experience with the end of his adventure at the Vélodrome: “These are difficult times for a player. It’s hard to train alone without access to the professional group. I thank my loved ones who stayed by my side. The joy of living is what allowed me to hold on.”
OM is warned
OM have had a much more consistent start to the championship than OL, with six more points on the board. Nevertheless, the Rhone players can rely on the history of confrontations between the two teams. In the last 20 times they have hosted Marseille on their home turf, they have only lost twice. Veretout and his teammates will do everything to extend this supremacy at home. De Zerbi’s men are therefore warned in more ways than one.
