French defender William Saliba believes there is no one better than him in his position.

Arsenal defender William Saliba has said he believes he is one of the best in the world. But he also acknowledges he needs to go after titles to legitimise that status.

The French international has established himself as one of the best in his position in the English championship. He has also made a name for himself in the French national team, having a high-quality Euro last summer in Germany.

“I may be on my way to becoming the best defender in the world, he said without false modesty. I’ve been on the right track for two seasons, especially last season. I think I’m one of the best at the moment, but to say that, I have to win titles. I think that’s what I’m missing at the moment.”

Saliba thinks he has reached the top

“If you win titles, you are good and if you don’t win titles, you can’t say you are the best,
he continued. But I think I’m one of the best in the world.”

Arsenal travel to league leaders Manchester City on Sunday in a game that often provides an early indication of which team has the best chance of winning the title. Saliba is looking forward to the game: “Of course we want to compete with Manchester City like we have done in the last two seasons, but we know we have to do more. As I said, we have to compete with City, but also with the other teams, because it’s not just City.”
