According to Caught Offside, Newcastle United have been looking to sign a “flickering winger” for some time. The British outlet reports that the Magpies are keen to land Nottingham Forest player Anthony Elanga. However, if that prospect fails, the Toons could try to sign Manchester United flop Antony.
Antony swapped Ajax for United in the summer of 2022 for a whopping £85 million, but since then he has scored just 11 goals and made five assists in 83 appearances. This season he has only played one minute of football for the Red Devils, so trying to cash in on the 24-year-old could be the best move for all parties.
Mourinho around
The Brazilian, whose contract at Old Trafford runs until 2027, has been linked with a loan move to Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, with the transfer window in Turkey running until September 13. It remains to be seen whether the Turks will make a move for the Auriverde international.
If Antony remains alongside Erik ten Hag, he will hope to get more game time for United when they travel to Southampton on Saturday afternoon when the Premier League resumes after the international break.
