Real Madrid’s ‘Galactico’ Kylian Mbappe has been accused of ‘trying to copy’ Neymar, with the Frenchman adding too many feints and tricks to his game.

The 2018 World Cup winner has always been fast, with speed being the best weapon in his attacking arsenal. His pace has allowed Mbappe to terrorise opposing defences, becoming Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time leading goalscorer.

He is now the latest superstar to join the Santiago Bernabeu ranks, with Real Madrid signing him as a free agent. Mbappe has gone three games without a goal for Los Blancos at the start of the La Liga season, having struggled to shine at Euro 2024, and is seen as trying to emulate the guile of his former PSG team-mate Neymar.

Mbappé copycat?

Kevin Diaz said on RMC After Foot that the changes in Mbappé’s game are not doing him any favors: “When he has the ball, he tries really difficult moves. Since he played with Neymar, he seems to try to copy him with complex techniques. Of course, Kylian Mbappé has great technical qualities, but when you are not confident, it’s like Thierry Henry says: stick to what you know how to do and do it well.”

Mbappe opened his La Liga account for Real in a 2-0 win over Real Betis, but suffered another slump in France’s last Nations League campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Italy. He now works alongside Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo in Madrid as the three strikers look to form a formidable attacking trio.
