Former Manchester United great Wayne Rooney has just said he would have liked to wear the colours of Scottish club Celtic during his career.
The current Plymouth Argyle manager took part in the Legends game on Saturday, telling Celtic media: ”
Celtic was always a team that I followed and wanted to see win. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to play for Celtic. I would have loved to. But it didn’t work out and I didn’t get that chance.”
Rooney in love with Celtic
Rooney faced Celtic while playing in the Champions League with United. He added: “They were always special games. All the Celtic fans come out in force. To go to Celtic and experience the atmosphere there, and the Champions League nights at Celtic, it was special.”
Rooney has, as a reminder, spent almost his entire career in England. The only foreign club he has played with is the MLS franchise, DC United. This was towards the end of his professional career (between 2018 and 2020).
