The list of 30 nominees for the Ballon d’Or is certainly causing a stir in all four corners of Europe. While Rodrygo’s absence has made some people jump out of their chairs on the other side of the Pyrenees, Jamal Musiala’s absence is not going down well in Germany. Less radiant than in the past, the 21-year-old winger still had a convincing 2023-2024 campaign despite Bayern Munich’s blank season (33 games including 29 starts for 12 goals and 7 assists in all competitions). During Euro 2024, the Bavarian number 42 confirmed his incredible potential, particularly during the group stage. His absence is therefore considered an anomaly for the Munich board, as Max Eberl said.

I am happy for every player nominated for the Ballon d’Or, but we at FC Bayern are very surprised that Jamal Musiala is not on this list. Jamal was one of the best players at the Euros, he was voted into the ideal eleven and was one of the tournament’s top scorers. In addition, thanks to his excellent performances, Bayern reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. The fact that he is not even among the top 30 players of last season is completely incomprehensible to us. In our eyes, Jamal is one of the most fascinating players in international football, with absolutely exceptional and unique abilities. We are very proud of what he does for FC Bayern and also for the national team.“, regretted the German leader for DPA.
