Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi surprised many this summer by rejecting requests from English giants Liverpool.
Liverpool were willing to pay Zubimendi’s €60m buyout clause, but the Spanish international opted to continue with his Basque side. A decision that may have been surprising at the time, but which seems logical when you consider the player’s position.
Zubimendi devoted to Real Sociedad
“My friends are clear: whatever decision I make, it will be the best. There is no pressure, Zubimendi told Marca. For me, Real Sociedad is my life, I think I’ve spent half my life there. A big part of who I am is part of Real, it’s my life.”
Last season, Real Sociedad played in the C1. This time, they have to settle for the C3. Zubimendi is eager to return to the most beautiful of European Cups. “The question of Europe is clear. The higher the position, the better. We must seek our best version and, above all, be competitive. Feel competitive, be recognized and considered as having personality.”he confided.
