Already faced with several major withdrawals, Hervé Renard must deal with the absence of Selma Bacha through injury. The 2023 World Cup will not be easy for the coach of Les Bleues..

Packages have been legion in recent weeks on the side of the French women’s football team. After the expected Marie-Antoinette Katoto, it was the turn of Delphine Cascarino, Amandine Henry and Oriane Jean-François to give up the 2023 World Cup due to injury. Already served by so many hard knocks, Hervé Renard did not think he was entitled to a final rehash last Friday, during Les Bleues’ last warm-up match against Australia (1-0 defeat). To his dismay, the tricolor coach could only witness the injury of Selma Bacha. One less new weapon for his group.

All is not lost, however, for the tricolor left side who got away with a “simple” sprain. What certainly miss the first match of the Blue at the World Cup, scheduled for July 23 against Jamaica (12:00), while keeping the hope of returning a little later in the competition. For Hervé Renard, the equation has therefore become even more complex and the former coach of Saudi Arabia must now find a replacement solution, temporary or in the longer term, for the Lyon defender.

Many solutions

This Tuesday in its columns, The Team tried to help the coach and named three names. Clara Mateo is presented as the replacement “ the most natural to Selma Bacha, who has already played on the left quite recently, against Colombia and Canada, on April 7 and 11. Two other options are also put forward: Sakina Karchaoui and Amel Majri. A final solution, much less obvious, could be Viviane Asseyi. Hervé Renard will have the last word.
