Having remained silent during the three previous matches, the French striker, who had nevertheless started his Madrid adventure well by scoring against Atalanta (2-0) in the European Super Cup, scored twice.
The 2018 world champion opened the scoring thanks to a backheel pass from Federico Valverde. His second goal came from a penalty won by Vinicius, which the French captain confidently converted.

With these two goals, the Bondy player brings his career goal total to 334, surpassing Jean-Pierre Papin. The former Olympique de Marseille striker had scored 333 in all competitions (excluding lower divisions).
Mbappé joins Cristiano Ronaldo, Javier Hernández “Chicharito” and Dani Ceballos, who have all scored twice in their first league goal for Los Blancos in the 21st century. Only Ruud Van Nistelrooy had done better, scoring a hat-trick against Levante (4-1) on 10 September 2006.
