Enzo Maresca has had a mixed start to his career at the helm of Chelsea in the Premier League. After a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in their first match, the Blues responded by beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-2.
However, this Sunday, the Londoners relapsed by conceding a draw against Crystal Palace (1-1) at Stamford Bridge. This result places Chelsea in 11th position, in the soft underbelly of the ranking, five points behind the leader Manchester City and its runner-up, Liverpool.
Maresca sets the record straight
At the press conference following the match against the Eagles, Maresca wanted to clarify the situation. The Italian coach gave a realistic assessment of the current state of the club.
“There is one thing that must be clear: three years ago, Chelsea won the Champions League, yes… but today, it is no longer the same team”said the former Leicester City manager before continuing: “You now have to accept that if you don’t win sometimes, that’s normal.”
Chelsea travel to Bournemouth next Saturday for Matchday 4 of the Championship, hoping to quickly return to winning ways.
