Jonathan Tah is staying at Bayer Leverkusen. The German central defender was announced as leaving all summer, but he will finally leave for a ninth season in the Red and Black jersey. FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, several of the biggest clubs in Europe have looked into Jonathan Tah’s case, without success. Highly appreciated by Xabi Alonso, the German international (29 caps) will be the vice-captain of Leverkusen for one more season under the leadership of the Spaniard.
The 28-year-old centre-back took to Instagram after his failed move to reassure Bayer fans of his motivation for the season ahead. “Dear Bayer 04 fans, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding me and my future. Some contexts have not always been presented correctly, but I will certainly come back to them in due course. It is true that I also looked at departure options this summer, but it is now certain that I will reach ten years at Bayer 04. (…) Now, let’s put an end to all the speculation and focus fully on the 2024/25 season. I promise you that I will give my all this season so that we succeed, just as I have in the last nine years.
