Former historic president of Racing Club de Lens and declared candidate for the future presidency of the LFP, Gervais Martel was stopped dead in his tracks in his business, due to the lack of sponsorship from the UAF. He deplored the situation.

There were seven of them at the start. This Friday, there is already only one left. If Christophe Bouchet, Stéphane Martin and Alain Guerrini had initially seen their chances of competing to succeed Vincent Labrune as head of the Professional Football League (LFP) vanish, this was then the case for three other candidates. Karl Olive, Cyril Linette and Gervais Martel thus missed the last step that would have allowed them to face the outgoing president. Former president of RC Lens, Gervais Martel had it very bad.

When confirming what was for him a sad announcement, the man who was also a columnist for the channel
The Team pushed a rant relayed on Friday by the sports media. I’m a little disgusted. This is crazy stuff. “And to explain the reasons for his anger.” It’s as if, during the election of the President of the Republic, there were fifteen candidates and for the first round, it was decided that only two could run. Now we are in the madhouse. What does that mean? Where is democracy? »

“No intention of letting me do it”

For Gervais Martel, there would therefore have been an impediment to his candidacy. Sponsored by Foot Unis (the clubs’ union), he did not receive that of the Union of Football Actors (UAF) this Friday. Enough to make him lose his temper and promise: ”
I do not intend to let this happen. I will think about it and see what recourse is possible. We will see, for example, what happens today and in the days to come. »

Very upset by the situation he is currently experiencing, Gervais Martel still hopes that he will be able to resume his path towards a candidacy for the post of president of the LFP. For the moment, it is only Vincent Labrune who is heading towards a re-election without a rival.
