Lens, the disaster
RC Lens lost in Athens this Thursday evening in the return leg of the Conference League play-off (2-0). A setback synonymous with elimination from the European scene.

In a favourable position after its 2-1 victory at Bollaert last week despite being down by more than 70 minutes, RC Lens failed this Thursday evening in Greece, beaten 2-0 by Panathinaikos.

A scenario all the more infuriating as the Blood and Gold missed a penalty at the start of the match, by Sotoca (15e). The Athenians then gained confidence to make the difference in the second period, with goals from Facundo Pellistri (62e) and the former Lyonnais Tetê (85e).

There will therefore be no French clubs in the Conference League this season. Ligue 1 will nonetheless be nicely represented on the continental scene with OL and OGC Nice in the Europa League, but also and above all four ambassadors in the Champions League: PSG, AS Monaco, Losc and Stade Brestois.
