For a long time, Vincent Labrune could have believed himself to be the only candidate for his own succession at the helm of the LFP, while the date of September 10th for the possible renewal of the presidency is now clearly looming. However, there are no fewer than six people now vying for his throne.
Faced with the governance crisis born from the disastrous negotiations on TV rights for the period 2024-2029 – with the outcome that we know regarding the low amount promised to French clubs and the surge in the cost of TV subscriptions for Ligue 1 followers – many voices are criticizing the record of the former OM boss.
Election postponement requested
We knew that Cyril Linette, former executive of L’Equipe and Canal+; Stéphane Martin, former president of the Girondins de Bordeaux; Karl Olive, Renaissance MP for Yvelines; Alain Guerrini, boss of Panini; and Christophe Bouchet, another former president of OM, were in the race to succeed Vincent Labrune – a sixth man has invited himself to the ball in the last few hours.
This is the former RC Lens manager Gervais Martel, current member of the LFP board of directors, who is seeking the essential sponsorship of two unions – Foot Unis and the Union des acteurs du Football (UAF) – to validate his candidacy. Vincent Labrune’s opponents are also demanding a postponement of the election so that their respective programs can be studied properly.
