Thibaut Courtois persists and signs: he will give up his international career as long as the current coach officiates.

Thibaut Courtois is a hard-nosed man. On bad terms with Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco, the 32-year-old goalkeeper prefers to give up his international career as long as the latter is in charge of the Red Devils.

Real Madrid’s last bastion explained this on Thursday in a statement published on its social networks: ” I feel immense love and pride representing my country on the pitch, as do each and every one of you who support the Red Devils. I feel privileged to have had the honour of wearing the national jersey. Even in my wildest dreams, I never imagined I would be able to do it more than 100 times. ” he introduces before putting his foot in it.

“The best solution for Belgium”

Unfortunately, following the events that occurred with the coach and after careful consideration, I have decided not to return to the Belgian national team under his leadership. In this matter, I accept my share of responsibility. However, for the future, my lack of confidence in him would not contribute to maintaining the necessary atmosphere of cordiality. The Federation, with which I have had several discussions, accepts my position and the reasons that led me to this painful but consistent decision. I regret having disappointed some fans, but I am convinced that this is the best solution for Belgium, because it closes a debate and allows the team to concentrate on pursuing its objectives. »

Not called up for Euro 2024 after having himself withdrawn from the competition in December 2023, while he was nursing a knee injury, Thibaut Courtois has had a conflictual relationship with his coach since June 2023 and a captain’s armband entrusted to Romelu Lukaku at his expense during a match that Kevin De Bruyne could not play.
