ASM’s timid start against the Greens

While PSG and OM did well in their Ligue 1 debuts, AS Monaco had to settle for a narrow victory over ASSE this Saturday evening (1-0).

The essentials are acquired. The three points. Nothing more. AS Monaco got the better of AS Saint-Etienne this Saturday evening for the first day of Ligue 1. And this in accordance with the logic of the hierarchy against a promoted team. However, the club from the Rock gave itself a (little) scare.

If Minamino, already seemingly indispensable, allowed his team to take the lead before the half-hour mark (1-0, 28e) – and this following a goal disallowed for offside (21e) – the Monegasques were unable to protect themselves afterwards, even conceding a goal of their own.

Greens deprived of equalizer

The Saint-Etienne striker found the net in the second half (72e), only he too found himself caught in the offside trap, by a mere nothing, at the start of the action. A cruel outcome for the Greens who will be able to pride themselves on having sold their skin dearly in the Principality.

With this victory, Monaco takes provisional fourth place in the elite, ahead on goal difference (+1) of Losc, who beat Reims earlier in the evening (0-2), PSG, who beat Le Havre on Friday evening (1-4) and OM, who made a strong impression in Brest late this Saturday afternoon (1-5).
