Kylian Mbappe showed exactly why Real Madrid have been waiting so long for him on his debut, and Jude Bellingham was full of praise for his new team-mate.

Real Madrid started their 2024/25 campaign in style by beating Atalanta 2-0 in the Super Cup final. Goals from Mbappe and Federico Valverde gave Carlo Ancelotti’s side their fourth trophy of the calendar year. Bellingham has now praised his new team-mate, who joined Los Blancos on a free in the summer after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired.

Asked about the signing of Kylian Mbappe this summer, Bellingham told reporters after the win: “I think it shows the intention and the mentality of the team. When, just after winning the biggest trophy there is, you want to sign a player like him… That’s the definition of Real Madrid, that kind of signing.

Bellingham praises Mbappé

“The way he played today is unbelievable, it’s unbelievable to play with him and he’s been a great teammate so far. We just want to enjoy understanding each other’s rhythm and hopefully make some assists and score more goals. It’s great to play with him and (Vinicius Jr) but it’s tough sometimes. You only have two seconds because they’re both gone. I saw him do the feint and I just thought I’d give him the area and he finishes like he always does. It’s a joy to watch him up close.”

The Englishman was also asked how he plans to adapt to the new systems that Ancelotti will use following Mbappe’s arrival in the team, to which he replied: ” I think the coach trusts me to have a sense of positions. I think when necessary I can go higher and when I need to I can help build.

“Whatever the coach expects from me, I will do. I don’t know if I will always score goals, but I hope I will always be involved in helping the team win. That is the most important thing for me.”
