Désiré Doué has had quite a week. On Friday, the 19-year-old won the silver medal with the French U23 team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. After the final against Spain, he was also asked about his future. “This month has been very busy. I had a lot of games to play. I was focused on that. I have people who are working on that for me, who are taking care of me so that I am released. But the Olympics are over. I will have a decision to make about my future, I will make it in a few days.”
Bayern Munich’s bitterness
The Stade Rennais player didn’t hang around. On Sunday evening, Doué gave his preference to Paris Saint-Germain, as revealed by us. A club that has been following him for a while and wants to make him one of its new stars. This was also Bayern Munich’s goal. The Germans were formidable competitors for Nasser Al-Khelaïfi’s club in this case. Indeed, they tried everything to sign the Angers native. First, there was a proposal of €35 million (bonus included), to force the Bretons to give in, who are demanding €60 million.
Then, Vincent Kompany worked hard to convince Doué. Sky Germany explains that the Belgian had the Frenchman on the phone several times to explain his project to him. But that was clearly not enough. The German media speaks of a “reverse” and a “bitter defeat“, especially since the Bavarian club recently had a slight lead on this file. The residents of the Allianz Arena are therefore disappointed, they who wanted the French star 100% and who were willing to give up the 60 M€ requested. Image also mentions this defeat of Bayern Munich on the transfer window.
A big failure for the Germans
The German publication headlined: “Dream player decides not to move to Bayern!“. Then she explained: “The Germans really wanted to recruit the offensive jewel Désiré Doué (19 years old) from Stade Rennais. Recently, the bosses around the sporting director Max Eberl (50 years old) made a transfer offer of 50 million euros including bonuses for the Frenchman (…) The second transfer failure in a short space of time. More recently, Xavi Simons refused Bayern. Like last season, he will play for RB Leipzig on loan for another year.”
Image adds: “The Doué failure also comes at a bitter time. Because at the moment, Bayern is able to act and could have brought him in straight away. Club boss Uli Hoeneß recently announced: “No more players will come unless one, two or three players leave first! We now have three additional players who cost a total of 125 million (Ito, Olise and Palhinha; editor’s note). It has been clear since Saturday afternoon: Matthijs de Ligt (24) and Noussair Mazraoui (26) will both leave Bayern for Manchester United. The sales bring a possible total volume of 70 million euros! This will probably not be invested in Doué…” Under contract until 2026 at Rennes, Désiré Doué is therefore promised to PSG. A disappointment for the Munich team.
