Olympique de Marseille are just a few days away from their Ligue 1 debut under Roberto de Zerbi, with a trip to Brest. Mystery reigns around this new version of OM, with little communication and an emphasis on work. After a final victory (1-3) in Augsburg, the Phocéens continue their preparation, without having their final squad and watching the files on which Pablo Longoria and Mehdi Benatia are working to satisfy De Zerbi.
The Italian, for his part, is apparently quite happy with his working conditions and what the players are offering him in terms of intensity and seriousness at the moment. Better still, La Provence reports statements made internally by the former Brighton coach which may seem surprising.
A strong compliment
Roberto De Zerbi was particularly impressed by his players during this preparation and was surprised by the open-mindedness and professionalism of the players.
“Of all the teams I have coached, you are the players who have assimilated my principles the fastest.”the Transalpine is said to have declared to his flock in recent days.
The De Zerbi method is said to be demanding. It is also said that players in the French championship are sometimes reluctant to work as hard as their European neighbours. For the moment, with a squad that is certainly cosmopolitan, but still made up of French players, it would seem that things are working well. As with any coach, and particularly at Olympique de Marseille where the pressure is constant, Roberto De Zerbi will be judged on the results and on the first copies submitted by his group.
