After one of the most protracted transfer sagas in recent memory, Mbappe finally left Paris Saint-Germain for Real Madrid earlier this summer. Now, Los Blancos fan Alonso has spoken out about the 25-year-old’s move, his hopes for the upcoming season – including retaining the Champions League title – and more.
Regarding Mbappe’s signing, the Aston Martin driver told DAZN: “Very happy after a long wait of six or seven years in which the signing was almost done. He has finally arrived and he will be an incredible reinforcement for Madrid, I hope he succeeds”Asked about the club’s dominance, he added: “The Champions League is enough for me.”
Mbappé under pressure
Mbappe has been prolific for PSG in Ligue 1 over the years, winning over a dozen trophies and scoring 256 goals in 308 games. Most of those goals have come as a left-back attacker, but he could play as a number nine in Madrid, which will certainly test his qualities. The France international will be under pressure to hit the ground running in Carlo Ancelotti’s side, but he is certainly capable of doing so as one of the best players in the world.
Alonso will next be in F1 action at the Dutch Grand Prix on August 25, while Mbappe could make his Madrid debut against Europa League winners Atalanta next Wednesday before starting his La Liga season in Mallorca on August 18.
