Diego Simeone has not been a big fan of Felix since his move to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019 from Benfica. After more than three seasons of underperformance for Los Rojiblancos, the Portuguese forward was sent on loan to Chelsea in January 2023 before moving to Barcelona for another loan in 2023-24. While Barcelona were reportedly interested in signing Felix, they have since abandoned the plan and Atletico are now looking at other options to offload the star.
Atletico Madrid are looking to sign Alvarez from Manchester City this summer and according to the Daily Mail, Los Rojiblancos are offering Felix on loan to Pep Guardiola’s side in addition to a cash fee to sign the Argentine forward. According to reports, Alvarez is indeed looking to leave the eight-time Premier League champions and the Cityzens value the 24-year-old at £75 million, plus £10 million in performance-related bonuses.
An ambitious exchange
Alvarez said he hoped to play a bigger role for City. Asked about the Argentine’s future at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola bluntly said his future was up to him. Following Guardiola’s comments, Alvarez said he was happy at the club despite Guardiola’s comments and said: “I heard what Guardiola said. I don’t have much to say about it. I never said anything bad. I just said I would think about it like I do every season to make an analysis of what happened last season, a projection of what can happen. I always say I am comfortable and happy at City, which is a big club. So I didn’t say anything bad.”
With both players seemingly unhappy at their respective clubs, a swap would be the best thing for them. It remains to be seen whether Manchester City are just as happy to welcome Felix and his attitude issues back.
