A player from the French Olympic team spoke calmly about the match against Argentina, despite the controversy surrounding the racist chants by the Argentinians after their victory at the 2024 Copa America.

France and Argentina will face off this Friday in Bordeaux in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

This meeting is particularly anticipated, given the tense climate between the two nations following the chants deemed racist by the Argentinians against the players of the French team.

“All French people are affected”

However, this situation does not seem to worry the Bleuets’ centre forward, Jean-Philippe Mateta, who opened his account against New Zealand (3-0) this Tuesday.

Passing through the mixed zone after his team’s victory against the OlyWhites, the Crystal Palace player briefly discussed the impact of this controversy on the state of mind of the French.

“With what happened recently, all the French are affected. I was not affected personally, no. But we will see what will happen in the quarter-finals,” said Mateta.
