FC Barcelona are pushing hard to sign Nico Williams, their main target for this summer’s transfer market.

An official announcement on this is expected soon, but as the wait drags on, the Catalans are becoming more and more pessimistic.

In fact, Barcelona sources seem to have accepted defeat in this transfer window. According to Diario AS, the club’s directors consider that the operation to sign the 22-year-old sensation is “practically dead”quoting ” pressure from his family and Athletic Club” as being primarily responsible for their inability to obtain his signature.

Barça can’t do it

As a result, the Williams deal is on hold, meaning Barcelona’s pursuit of Dani Olmo will resume. The former La Masia player is considered the ‘Plan B’ option, although efforts would have been made to sign him even if Williams had joined the club.

Barcelona are reportedly very optimistic about Olmo’s return to the club, nine years after his departure for Dinamo Zagreb. The Blaugrana are keen to move on from Williams’ refusal quickly, if/when it happens.
