Three days after their great victory over the United States (3-0), the Blues had difficulty beating Guinea (1-0) on Saturday evening in Nice. On Tuesday, they will challenge New Zealand for their final group match.
With a three-point lead over their pursuers and a largely favourable goal difference (+4), qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2024 Olympic Games is practically a given for Thierry Henry’s men.
Henry to conduct major staff review
The French team coach should therefore carry out a major review of the squad. “My plan for the third game? Rotate. We’re at +3 points (on the first two pursuers, editor’s note). If we look at the situation, we have a group. Some guys didn’t play there and it will be up to them to show themselves in the third game. I don’t know if everyone will play but there will be rotation.”said the 1998 world champion at a press conference.
First in their group with six points, the Blues are therefore ahead of the United States and New Zealand in the standings (three points each). As for Guinea, they can still hope to get out of the group stage, despite their two defeats in as many matches.
