After missing out on Yoro, Real Madrid have made it a priority to sign Ferland Mendy on a new deal, according to Marca. The left-back is out of contract next summer and, despite widespread speculation that Alphonso Davies will be joining Spain in the next 12 months, he is expected to remain a key player for Carlo Ancelotti.
Mendy, the priority
Mendy has been the subject of rumours of a move away from Real Madrid since the summer, particularly given the expected arrival of Davies. However, Ancelotti has made him a priority and the club are working to secure a renewal before the start of the season.
Mendy was a very reliable player for Real last season, and it makes sense to keep him on that basis. It will be interesting to see if that has any bearing on Davies’ situation, who could join Bayern Munich this summer.
