After his time at Olympique de Marseille, Jorge Sampaoli, former Chile coach, found a club playing in the Champions League, Sevilla FC. He finished third in his C1 group and was sent to the round of 32 of the Europa League. After his qualification in the quarter-finals, only five months after his arrival, Jorge Sampaoli was sacked due to his results in La Liga and did not finish the European season leading to the C3 title in 2023. He looks back on his passage missed in Seville between 2022 and 2023 in an interview given to the Spanish media Marca. There is no holding back on the club’s strategy.

President Castro and Del Nido Junior asked me to come and help. He had no reason to go there, with a team in decline and without adequate staff (…). I left for a Sevilla team which was at the bottom of the table, and I admit that I was wrong to leave, but the managers insisted a lot (…). The club was exploding. It had nothing to do with 2017 (his first stint at Sevilla FC). The club faced a political storm every day. You could see everything that happened this season coming. The club was battling relegation and everything ended up being uncomfortable. We had hoped to renew the team at Christmas and that was not the case. I wanted to leave before, but the club did not allow me to do so by contract », he declared in the columns of Marca.
