FC Barcelona can no longer pay players’ salaries!

It’s a secret for no one. FC Barcelona has been going through a rather worrying financial crisis for a while now, which is clearly handicapping the club. This is visible in the transfer window, obviously, since the club can no longer join the race for the best players on the planet and often has to make do with free players, on loan or with a reduced market value. Just as it was necessary to part with several of the club’s assets in order to strengthen the squad…

An already critical situation, and which, contrary to what Joan Laporta claims, is not really improving. Quite the contrary. As indicated in the Catalan daily ARA, the club is in huge difficulty paying salaries. The media indicates that at Barça, players are paid in two installments: in January, then in June.

A new loan

And according to the media, the club cannot settle what it owes to its players in June, or at least, not completely. Indeed, in total, there are around 250 million euros to be paid. An amount that the club cannot cope with, especially since on top of that, we must add the bonuses to be paid to the women’s team after their coronation in the Champions League. The low attendances at Montjuïc and the Libero deal which collapsed thus created a hole in the budget of the club, which expected to have more money available at this time of the year in its financial forecasts.

Still according to information from the serious Catalan newspaper, Joan Laporta’s management is working on a new loan of 100 million euros in order to be able to pay the players’ salaries. Such a loan should, however, first be validated by the club assembly in the event that it wishes to use it in full. New proof that Barça is in a very critical context…
